Calendar of heritage walks unveiled

A schedule of heritage walks is now available, with excursions starting in September.

The Upper Housatonic Valley National Heritage Area announces the 20th annual “Housatonic Heritage Walks” over five weekends: September 3-4, 10-11, 17-18, 24-25, and September 1 and October 2.

Over 80 free guided walks will be offered in Berkshire and Litchfield counties. The population is invited to participate in these informative and family walks, offered in partnership with historical, cultural and outdoor organizations in the region, according to a press release.

Historians, naturalists, and conservationists will guide participants on explorations through historic gardens and city neighborhoods, behind-the-scenes visits to cultural sites, nature walks, hikes, and visits to numerous ruins of industrial sites that were once thriving local industries. . There will be Native American and African American historical walks, a canoe trip on the Housatonic River and a bike tour on scenic country roads, according to the release.
