The Honorable Edmund Bartlett, Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism, has become the first Caribbean tourism leader to be inducted into the prestigious Global Travel Hall of Fame.

The Global Travel Hall of Fame recognizes top performers in the travel, hospitality, tourism and leisure industries. The inductees are also hailed as having not only “achieved phenomenal commercial success, but also inspired and shaped those around them”.
Minister Bartlett said: ‘It is truly a humbling experience to be recognized in this way and to be included as a member of such a revered group, especially as it recognizes not only my own contribution to the sector, but the fact that Jamaica is like a great example of what can be achieved in tourism.
He thanked the team he leads in the Ministry of Tourism and its public bodies, describing the members as “very dedicated and hardworking public sector workers who appreciate the importance of what they do for success. tourism and its significant contribution to the Jamaican economy. ”
The Minister is currently on a global marketing tour to boost visitor arrivals. He will then travel to New York to promote the Jamaica brand on the northeast coast of the United States, passing through New Jersey, Connecticut, to Boston.
Minister Bartlett said: “Then we reached the new market in the Middle East. We are meeting all the mega airlines including Emirates, Etihad, Qatar, SAL and we are also going to Riyadh to meet King Khalid their big aviation company who wants to open 225 new jetways and we want Jamaica to be in there .
His program also includes a meeting with representatives of Royal Jordanian Airlines, as part of his vision to make Jamaica the hub of the Middle East market for the Caribbean and the Americas.
The promotional tour will also visit Africa, Europe and Latin America. Upon completion, Minister Bartlett expects agreements to be signed for an additional 8,000 new hotel rooms in Jamaica.
Last year, Jamaica was voted ‘World’s Best Family Destination’, ‘World’s Best Wedding Destination’, ‘Best Caribbean Destination’ and ‘Best Caribbean Tourist Board’ by voters at the World Travel Awards .
