K-State continues to stay at home against Central Connecticut State

MANHATTAN, Kan. – With a modified weekend schedule, K-State continues its homestand with a three-game series against Central Connecticut State starting Saturday at 2 p.m. at Tointon Family Stadium.

The three-game series concludes Sunday with a doubleheader scheduled for 1 p.m. Match 2 of the doubleheader will begin approximately 45 minutes after the end of the opening match.

The Wildcats will send the right-hander Blake Adams, who is tied for the Big 12 lead in strikeouts, at the Hill on Saturday. Second year in red shirt Connor McCullough will get the call in Game 2 of the series.

With construction underway of the new Morgan Family Arena, parking for baseball games at Tointon Family Stadium will be affected during the 2022 season.


Fans are advised to park in the west parking lot of Bill Snyder Stadium and do so by entering Gate 3 via College Avenue across from Ascension Via Christi Hospital. Gate 1 and Gate 2 will be closed for the duration of the 2022 baseball season.


When walking to the stadium, fans are directed to exit the west parking lot along the pedestrian path between Gate 1 and Gate 2 and then proceed to the stadium via the sidewalk along College Avenue.

A LOOK AT K-STATE
K-State continues its homestand with a three-game series against Central Connecticut State…The Wildcats opened their home schedule on Wednesday with a 6-4 win over longtime rival Nebraska…In the win, Hassall Griffon recorded four hitter innings in his first start since 2019 to pick up the win… Nick Goodwin homered in a five-run fourth inning and Collin Rothermel pitched five innings of relief to land his first career save … Heading into the home opener, the Wildcats completed a seven-game road trip through California with a 3-4 record, taking two of three games at Loyola Marymount to wrap up the two-week excursion … in the Cats’ first series win of the year, K-State picked up an 11-0 victory Friday in Game 1 before a Saturday’s 10-5 win doesn’t clinch the series… Going into the sweep, LMU responded with a 14-7 victory after K-State took a 3-0 lead… Cole Johnson and Dominique Johnson led K-State’s offense with seven hits apiece, while Dominique Johnson had a team record of five RBIs…The Cats totaled 16 doubles and three homers in three games, getting three doubles apiece from Cole Johnson and Nick GoodwinJosh Nicoloff, Dylan Phillips and Orlando Salinas, Jr. each has homered for the Wildcats, as the team has homered in four of its last five games… K-State’s offense has averaged 9.3 carries per game and 14.7 hits hits per game in the series after averaging 3.7 runs per game and 7.9 hits per game entering the playoffs… Blake Adams recorded six scoreless innings Friday night, making his second straight quality start. Adams struck out seven and scatter five hits… Connor McCullough earned his first win of the season after going three hits in 5 2/3 innings and tied his season-high seven strikeouts.



CONNECTICUT STATE CENTRAL SCOUTING
Central Connecticut State, defending Northeastern Conference champion and NCAA participant Eugene Regional, is 3-1 in four games this season after a 7-6 win over Albany in its opener at home Tuesday… The Blue Devils are led by Dan Covino, who is hitting .600 (9 for 15) with a double, two home runs and six RBIs… Noah Martinez also has two home runs and leads the CCSU with seven RBIs… As a team, Central Connecticut State is averaging .304… On the mound, the Blue Devils have a 3.55 team ERA with 26 strikeouts and 17 walks in 33 innings… Anthony Mozzicato and Jake Neuman did not allow an earned run in their first five-inning start of the year…Mozzicato will get the call in Game 1 of the series while Neuman will start Game 2 of the series…Dominic Niman , who is 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA) will take the hill for the end ale .



IN THE SERIES
K-State and Central Connecticut State have met only once before, with the Wildcats winning a neutral site contest 17-7 in Homestead, Fla. on March 23, 2000… All-time the Wildcats have a 16-2 record against current Northeastern Conference teams … K-State last faced an NEC team in 2020 when the Cats swept a three-game home series with Fairleigh Dickinson.



TWO-SHOT MITCH
K-State Senior Receiver Justin Mitchell hit safely in eight of 10 games he’s played this season, including a five-game hitting streak from Feb. 19 to March 1 … Mitchell has produced five two-hit games this season, including four during of his last six outings…Mitchell has been 7 for 20 in his last five games at California with four doubles, a home run and three RBI…Mitchell is second on the team in average (.382 ) and is the team leader in on-base percentage (.462) and slugging (.588) … Mitchell, voted one of four team captains before the season, scored seven points in his eight last games … In four seasons at Oklahoma, Mitchell posted a .261/.352/.348 slash with 15 doubles and two home runs.



CRUNCHY WITH RISP
Starting the season 0-5, K-State was just 9 for 37 (.243) with runners in scoring position while hitting .191 (9 for 47) with two outs… Over the past six games, the The Wildcats are hitting .419 (31 for 74) with runners in scoring position and averaging .347 (25 for 72) with two outs… The Cats have won four of their last six games, recording 14 two-RBIs in this streak after just four RBIs with two outs in the first five games of the year.



SIR. FEBRUARY
K-State starting pitcher Connor McCullough owned February in now his third season at K-State… In seven starts in February, McCullough has made five quality starts and boasts a 3-1 record, with a sparkling 1.28 ERA (6 ER, 42.1 IP) … The redshirt sophomore right-hander had 50 strikeouts against 10 walks in February and claims a WHIP of 0.89 … In addition, he has allowed no more than two earned runs and has contested at least five rounds at each start of the month. .. In his first start of 2022, McCullough held Michigan scoreless in five innings with five strikeouts, not giving up a hit until the fourth inning… On February 26 at CSU Bakersfield, he allowed two earned runs in six innings with seven strikeouts… In his last start he tied his season high with seven strikeouts and took the win after going 5 2/3 innings and three hits allowed… The Maumelle, Arkansas product is the Wildcats’ only returning starter on the weekend. .. McCullough, who was a 2020 America freshman pick by Collegiate Baseball, tied for the team lead in starts (15) and ranked second in innings pitched (77.1) and strikeouts (69) last season … He accounted for 15 of K-State’s 18 returning starts, 77 1/3 of 104 innings kept and 69 of 95 strikeouts.





OF THE ‘PEN
The K-State bullpen has a 4.55 ERA in its last six games, rebounding from an 11.29 ERA in the first five games of the season, including a 14 ERA, 85 on the season-opening weekend at the State Farm College Baseball Showdown… Winning four of their last six games, the Wildcat relievers have recorded 31 strikeouts to eight walks in 31 2/3 innings… In three games at Loyola Marymount, the relievers allowed 11 earned runs in 11 1/3 innings (8.74 ERA) with 16 strikeouts and six walks… For the season, the K-State bullpen has a 7.02 ERA (39 ER, 50 IP) with 64 strikeouts and 28 walks… Blake Corsentino and Hassall Griffin each has a team record of four relief outings… Correntino has recorded 8 2/3 scoreless relief innings while Hassall has 7 1/3 innings with a 2.45 ERA… The starting rotation of K-State turned into a 4.44 ERA (23 ER, 46.2 IP) with 56 strikeouts and 20 walks with opponents hitting .233 for the season.



PIGS BOSS
K-State offers a pair of Arkansas and Native transfers in its weekend rotation at Blake Adams and Connor McCullough … In six total starts, the duo has a combined 2.73 ERA (11 ER, 36.1 IP) and 48 strikeouts with just nine walks … Adams and McCullough each had quality starts at CSU Bakersfield, while Adams was career-long 7 2/3 and set a career-high 12 strikeouts … McCullough went six innings with two won on five hits as the duo totaled three quality starts (just three on the team) … Adams is tied for the conference lead with 27 strikeouts while ranking third with 19 2/3 innings pitched.
