New Britain Herald – Central Connecticut Health District’s ‘Walk This May’ contest is being held for those in Berlin, Newington; here’s how to participate

It’s almost time to represent your city in a healthy and fun competition.

The Central Connecticut Health District (CCHD) will kick off its 7th annual walking competition May 1 and wrap it up May 31.

“Are you all ready to ‘Walk This May’?!” the staff said in an announcement about the event.

CCHD challenges residents and working people in its member cities of Berlin, Newington, Rocky Hill and Wethersfield to walk as much as they can throughout the month. The theme for this year’s competition is “Celebrations Around the Globe”.

Several awards for strong performances will be presented at the “Walk This May” Awards Closing Ceremony, which will take place on Thursday, June 16 at Mill Pond Park in Newington, during the intermission of the Summer Concert Series. Up for grabs is the coveted High Stepper Award Trophy, awarded to the city that runs the most cumulative number of steps. The Impact Award plaque will go to the city with the most participants. Million Stepper Club Pins will be awarded to people who take at least one million steps during the month of May.

Registration opens April 18 on Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield’s Walker Tracker, which allows users to sync their fitness trackers or cell phones with an app to track and record their physical activity. To sign up, visit cchd4town.walkertracker.com, create a profile, find your city’s team, and start connecting. The CCHD also has a stock of pedometers available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Although this particular competition focuses on walking and running as healthy activities, the CCHR encourages all types of physical activity. Automatic pitch conversions can be done for wheelchairs, biking, hiking, kickboxing, Pilates, gardening, gardening and yoga.

For inspiration and motivation, visit social media on Wednesdays in May and tag CCHD @CCTHD4 #WalkingCompetition and #WalkThisMay when posting stories and photos. Also use the following hashtags according to this calendar: May 4 – Funky/Derby Hat Day #CCHDwcHats, May 11 – Crazy Socks Day #CCHDwcSocks, May 18 – Color Your Cause #CCHDwcColors and May 25 – Walk with a Friend Day (two – or on all fours) #CCHDwcFriends.
