Bring someone special or come alone to a special evening hosted by the Western Hemisphere’s largest art museum. Every Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. starting February 18, the Metropolitan Museum of Art will host “Date at the Met», an evening of live music, drink specials and art.

Drink specials with the purchase of a free drink will be available at the American Wing Cafe and the Museum’s Balcony Lounge. Musicians include the famous ETHEL string quartet, Sonnambula, New York’s leading medieval, renaissance and baroque ensemble, and Mike Hashim’s New Orleans Foot Warmers playing jazz classics.

From 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., museum guides will lead informal discussions in the gallery, giving guests the opportunity to get to know a certain work of art.

“Forget streaming on the couch, it’s time to get out!” Ken Weine, vice president of external affairs and director of communications for the Museum, said in a declaration. “We’ve all been looking forward to a great date night in New York for a long time. The vertiginous spaces and hundreds of galleries of the Met are even more spectacular and romantic at night. Plus, New Yorkers can still pay what they want for admission, so this really is the best date in town.

All events are free at the Met with admission to the museum, which for New York State residents and New Jersey and Connecticut students with valid ID is chargeable. Advance tickets are not required. More information on the event’s programming can be found here.
