The 4th of July celebration is grand (and historic) at the Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center

The Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center (KTM&HC) was the place to be on this glorious 4th of July! Not a cloud in the sky, a warm breeze and the sounds of children’s laughter reminded us how lucky we are to live in America and in Ridgefield, Connecticut.

KTM & HC’s annual 4th of July festivities have long been a fun and patriotic Ridgefield tradition, and after a two-year hiatus, today’s celebration was BIG.

In addition to being historic for our country, today, the 4th of July, marks the day the museum opened its doors in 1966. Wow!

Patriotism and old-fashioned fun abounded at Keeler Tavern as children played colonial-era games on the museum lawn, enjoyed crafts, a dunk tank and a juicy watermelon. Angry O’Haras added spice with some bluegrass music! The fun continued inside the museum where there were tours and family activities in the historic barn.

After the bells rang 13 times at 2 p.m. (let freedom ring is a longstanding tradition celebrating our independence) attendees were treated to a dramatic reading of the Declaration of Independence.

Thanks to the amazing staff at Keeler Tavern for taking us back in time and reminding us what it means to be an American.

Did you know? The Keeler Tavern Museum was designated a historic landmark in 1982. The Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center is committed to promoting the history and heritage of Ridgefield through programs, tours and special events (and today was incredibly special!)

And… the party is not over! The Town of Ridgefield Fireworks will take place on Saturday July 9th. Sponsored by Fairfield County Bank, the traditional community event takes place at Ridgefield High School. Parking passes cost $20 per car. Learn more here.

Happy 4th of July, Ridgefield!

In the words of Lee Greenwood:

i’m proud to be american
Where at least I know I’m free
And I won’t forget the men who died
Who gave me this right
And I’d be happy to stand next to you
And still defend her today
‘Cause there’s no doubt
I love this land
God bless the USA
