Outside of energy, tourism is one of Wyoming’s main sources of income, with tourists traveling here for national parks, adventure, and the great outdoors.

But the COVID-19 pandemic, by limiting travel, has severely affected the industry.

Visit Casper, however, is trying to change that narrative by providing $ 25,000 in seed funding to an existing or new business in the travel and hospitality industry with the goal of boosting tourism and strengthening Casper’s reputation. as a destination.

Seed funding – made available through CARES law revenues – will be allocated by December 20.

Judges will conduct semi-final and final interviews and decide who is most qualified to receive the $ 25,000, as well as mentorship and financial assistance for a marketing campaign.

The initiative is unlike anything Visit Casper has done in the past, said Jim Ruble, chairman of the Natrona County Travel and Tourism Board.

“Although Casper is already an incredible destination, we know that the tourism industry has been one of the hardest hit by the coronavirus,” he said in a press release. “To continue to grow and for travel and hospitality to remain the primary economic drivers for Natrona County, we need to be bold, creative and strategic. I can’t wait to see what Casper’s innovators bring through this challenge.
